Mark Masonry and Charitable Giving |
|
Every newly-admitted Freemason is immediately told that he is expected to exercise Charity, not just to his brethren
but to anyone in need of comfort and support. Freemasonry is a major charitable donor; in the United Kingdom its Grand
Charity is second only to the National Lottery in its donations to Charities at
home and abroad. |
|
Mark Masons' charity is exercised through a national Mark Fund of Benevolence,
by a Benevolent Fund for the Province and by individual Mark Lodges. No funds are generated
from the general public - all come from member's own resources and through private fund-raising efforts; |
|
Details of recent donations to local recipients are set out below. |
|
At the celebration of the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the
Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons, three million pounds were
donated to the National Osteoporis Society in the presence of their Patron,
Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. The award was made possible by donations
from individual Mark Master Masons to the Mark Benevolent Fund. |
 |
Thousand of people in and around Hereford will now benefit from the national
award. The Hereford County Hospital has been awarded £87,860 by the
National Osteoporosis Society to help buy a scanner which will be central to a
new osteoporosis diagnostic service at the Hospital. |
|
Before the new service, patients from Herefordshire and Powys, many of them
women, were required to travel to Abergavenny or Worcester for a scan. |
